Plot summary
Anne is an actress in Paris. Her boyfriend Georges is away in Kosovo, photographing the war. His younger brother Jean, who has left the family farm and his silent father, arrives in the city looking for Georges and Anne lets him stay. On the street Jean tosses what is left of his pastry at Maria, a homeless Romanian woman, and Amadou, a young Franco-African, tells him to apologize. Police who arrive at the scene arrest Amadou and take Maria away for deportation. Amadou's mother is distressed by the ransacking of their home and her son's arrest. Deaf children play charades in sign language.
