Plot summary
Mike Tyson, sixteen, has no father and no friends in Faintville, the Canadian timber town where he lives with his mother, Cynthia. He would rather not exist. He drafts his own obituary, shoots himself, and wakes up in the town hospital. An exam there reveals a plum-sized tumor in his brain, and Mike keeps the diagnosis to himself, since he does not want the surgery that would save him. A pastor tells him to settle on a plan and carry it out. Mike meets Miranda, and she becomes what he cares about most. His father, who was never part of his life before, turns up, and Cynthia objects to the return.
