Plot summary
Chu Liuxiang is a master thief, and he is drinking with his friend, the monk Wuhua, when Gong Nanyan of the Holy Water Palace arrives. She says that the palace's Heaven's One Holy Water has disappeared and that Chu is the thief, and she also blames him for a series of killings, three clan leaders among the dead. She grants him a single month to prove that he had no part in any of it; if he fails, the mistress of the palace will put him to death. Chu's curiosity, and his wish to have his innocence known, drive him to look into the theft and the murders.
