Plot summary
In 2015, Jack Jackson, an investigative reporter at the Los Angeles Times, takes up the murder of the rapper Christopher Wallace, the Notorious B.I.G. The case has never been solved, so Jackson seeks out Russell Poole, the retired Los Angeles police detective who once led the inquiry. Poole's account reaches back to 1997, weeks after Wallace is killed, when he is assigned the shooting of Kevin Gaines, an off-duty black officer, by Frank Lyga, a white detective.
