Plot summary
In July 1969 an interview asks Senator Ted Kennedy what it is like to live in the shadow cast by his dead brothers, John and Bobby. He asks his cousin Joe Gargan to reserve rooms on Martha's Vineyard for the Boiler Room Girls, the women from Bobby's campaign for president. He travels to Chappaquiddick Island, where Gargan and Paul Markham wait for a sailboat race that he loses. That night a cottage party brings together five friends and six of the Boiler Room Girls, and he leaves with Mary Jo Kopechne.
