Plot summary
Enid Baines works for the British Board of Film Classification in 1985, cutting violent content so insistently that her colleagues call her Little Miss Perfect. At dinner her parents speak of Nina, Enid's sister, who vanished when the two were small; the parents now consider Nina legally dead, while Enid holds that she is alive. A tabloid ties a recent killing of a wife and her children to a film Enid had rated, and names her as the one who passed it, and calls that threaten and insult her arrive from then on. A producer, Doug Smart, tells her that Frederick North, a veteran horror director, wants her to view an old film of his, Don't Go in the Church; while watching it she sees events that stir her memories of Nina's disappearance.
