Plot summary
The evening is billed as a surprise birthday dinner for Jackie, two months ahead of her real birthday and on Caroline's own date. Caroline, her older sister, has gathered Jackie's friends, and the evening carries the weight of a long and difficult history between the two women. Once the group is back at Jackie's apartment, the real occasion appears: Caroline wants Jackie's friends to confront Jackie about her eating, her drinking and her pills. The friends are asked to take sides. It is no longer clear which of the sisters needs the most help, or whether Jackie is in denial and Caroline is telling the truth.
