Plot summary
Sindbad the Sailor and his crew finish their voyages and sail home to Baristan, where Sindbad is to marry Princess Jana. The kingdom now answers to El Kerim, a usurper who has taken the throne, covets the princess and wants Sindbad captured. Princess Jana persuades Galgo, a magician, to transform her into a Firebird so she can reach Sindbad and warn him about the ambush awaiting his ship. The Firebird lands aboard Sindbad's ship as it nears Baristan. Guards seize Galgo and bring him before El Kerim. El Kerim turns his guards into giant human falcons, which attack the ship with boulders. Sindbad and part of his crew come ashore.

- The screenplay was first rewritten by Guy Endore and then rewritten a second time by co-producer Frank King only a week before filming began, in order to cut production expenses, and the film was reedited once more before it was released.
- Outtakes of the film's "Dragon-Ogre" creature were used briefly in the film Natural Born Killers, so footage shot for Captain Sindbad resurfaced in a much later movie.
