Plot summary
Pirate William Kidd seizes the English galleon The Twelve Apostles and hides the plunder on a remote island. In London he presents himself to William III as an honest shipmaster seeking a privateering commission, and the king believes his account of a pirate who fled with the treasure. Kidd fills his crew with men facing execution in Newgate and Marshalsea, offering a royal pardon once the voyage is done. One of them, the quarrelsome Adam Mercy, becomes master gunner.
