Plot summary
Laurianne Beaulieu, a devout Catholic in Quebec, raises five sons: Christian, who reads; Raymond, who rebels; Antoine, who plays sports; Zac; and the youngest, Yvan. Zac was born on Christmas Day 1960, and his mother treats him as her miracle child, partly because a mystic who sold Tupperware once told her he could heal people. Gervais, his father, wants his sons to grow into man's men rather than sissies. Zac has stress-induced asthma and wants only to be normal; he also wants to please Gervais, whose approval matters most to him. Through his mid-teens and early twenties, he is unsure he can meet the standards of his mother or, above all, his father.
