Plot summary
Antibiotic resistance has made ordinary infections lethal by 2028, and Lifeline's health chip is issued free through the NHS. A paid upgrade defends the wearer against more diseases. Processing power is capped, however, so one person has to die for another's upgrade to be transferred, and people are dying at random. Lifeline is about to launch a second upgrade that is expected to earn billions, with a government minister behind it. Daniel Avery lost his wife and daughter in those circumstances, and nightmares and flashbacks drive him to investigate the company. A rebel group opposing the pull for power and the greed behind it assists him.
