Plot summary
Lucy, a second-year civil engineering graduate student, and her boyfriend Jose get out of a train in Bushwick, a Brooklyn neighborhood, into an empty station. A man runs in on fire, and an explosion kills Jose. Two men chase Lucy, and she escapes into the home of Stupe, who served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy. Stupe tells her that martial law is in force, and that he plans to reach his family in Hoboken, New Jersey. Lucy decides to come with him so she can rescue her grandmother. When Stupe is hurt along the way, he teaches her first aid and how to shoot.
