Plot summary
During the American occupation of Italy, three airmen of the 293rd Squadron are quartered one at a time in the San Forino home of Carla, a young orphan. In ten days each man passes through, and Carla, finding herself pregnant, cannot say which of them is the father. She writes to Cpl. Phil Newman, Lt. Justin Young and Sgt. Walter Braddock separately, and each begins sending monthly payments for a daughter, Gia, unaware the others exist. Carla tells the town she is the widow of Captain Eddie Campbell, invests the money in a vineyard and runs it with her manager, Vittorio. Twenty years later the squadron holds a reunion in San Forino, and the three men arrive with their wives, each expecting to meet Gia.
