Plot summary
Harry Harper is an inventor, and the device he has built salvages vessels sunk beneath the sea. Beverly West appeals to him for help with her father, a prisoner of South Sea islanders who hold him as ransom for the skull-shaped pearl she possesses, a jewel belonging to one of their idols. They will keep him until she brings it to them. Treasure buried in the South Seas also belongs to her, and other parties are after it. Job Mourdant, the guardian of Beverly, wants the pearl as well. He abducts her and puts out to sea with her. Harper follows.
