Trailer

Plot summary

Flying a one-man shuttle in 1987, Captain William "Buck" Rogers passes into an unexpected space phenomenon and sleeps for five centuries. In 2491 the alien flagship Draconia, bound for Earth and a trade conference under Princess Ardala, finds the drifting craft and revives him. Ardala and her aide Kane question him. Kane has him put back aboard his shuttle and sent toward Earth. Colonel Wilma Deering, an Earth military officer, escorts him through the planet's defense shield. He lands at New Chicago, a city rebuilt after a nuclear holocaust left most of the world radioactive. There he meets Dr. Elias Huer, who heads the Defense Directorate, Dr. Theopolis, a computer, and Twiki, a robot drone, who help him adjust.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Emperor Draco, Princess Ardala's father and played by Joseph Wiseman, had several scenes cut from the film, leaving only a hologram in the climax, yet images of Draco appeared prominently in merchandise and Mego produced 12-inch and 3¾-inch Draco action figures.
  • Futuristic buildings in the film's Earth scenes were stock shots of pavilions still standing on the site of Expo 67, including the British and French national pavilions, now open as the Montreal Casino; the same footage appeared in the Battlestar Galactica episode "Greetings from Earth" as a city on the planet Paradeen.
  • The opening credits song "Suspension" was sung by Kipp Lennon and co-written by Glen A. Larson; an instrumental version became the main theme of the Buck Rogers television series, while the vocal version returned for the season one finale's end credits in 1980.
  • Buck's NASA shuttle, the Ranger 3, was a prop recycled from Battlestar Galactica, where it had appeared as Michael's Lunar-7 shuttle; it was repainted a different color for Buck Rogers.
