Plot summary
Southampton, 1916. The Britannic, sister ship of the Titanic, enters service as a hospital ship for Allied troops wounded in the Gallipoli Campaign. Lady Lewis, a nurse, is sailing to Greece by way of Naples, where her husband serves as Great Britain's ambassador. Vera Campbell, governess to Lady Lewis's children, faints while boarding; she survived the Titanic's sinking four years before and lost her husband in it. Vera tells Captain Barrett and First Officer Townsend that she works for British Intelligence and believes a German spy has boarded to sabotage the Britannic. Barrett doubts that a woman can do such work, and Townsend mocks her.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Britannic (2000)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Historian Simon Mills learned from director Trenchard-Smith that the film was fiction rather than history, and when he pointed out that the real captain, Charles Alfred Bartlett, had become "Captain Barrett", he was told the name was changed for legal reasons. Mills asked to be credited as technical consultant but was billed as historical consultant.
- Trenchard-Smith said Britannic was the best of the three disaster movies he made around that time, and that it got him the job directing Megiddo: The Omega Code 2.
