Plot summary
Danny, a young man who longs to promote bands, works for an agent who forces him to buy up a singer's singles so that the charts can be rigged. He hears Kate Crowley sing and takes over her management, dropping her band and assembling a new one, Breaking Glass: Kate on vocals and keyboard, friends Tony and Dave on guitars, Ken on saxophone and Mick on drums. Booking the group is hard; the best Danny manages is a few nights in a pub whose regulars are neo-Nazis, an audience at odds with Kate's anarchist lyrics. Fighting breaks out, and the pub then declines to pay them. Danny talks Kate into cutting a demo, but the promoters they approach turn them down, and the band scrapes by as the police hassle them. Kate finds herself falling for Danny.
