Plot summary
Paul works for a Berlin agency that does the talking for people who want out of a relationship, delivering the news to the partners they are leaving. He is used to the reactions by now, keeps his work away from home, and holds his girlfriend Natalie at a certain distance. One assignment brings him to Toto, a sensitive man who will not accept that Kati, his girlfriend, wants to break up. Toto attaches himself to Paul and comes along as Paul travels around Germany on agency business. His presence puts Paul's job in question and also the relationship he has with Natalie.

- The exposé that became Schlussmacher, written by screenwriter Doron Wisotzky, was based on an internet report about real-life breakup agencies that end people's relationships on a client's behalf.
- For Toto, the opponent of star and director Matthias Schweighöfer, the team first looked for buddy types of Schweighöfer's age, but producer Dan Maag said that failed, and they cast Milan Peschel, who did not look like Schweighöfer at all.
- Matthias Schweighöfer's second film as director, Schlussmacher, scored the most successful opening of a German production since Til Schweiger's Kokowääh in 2011.
