Plot summary
As a boy of six or seven, Johnny Hume watches from behind some shrubbery while a gang led by the Cat shoots down his mother, his father and his brother. Twenty years later he has become an expert bronc rider and target shooter, but the memory of the killings leaves him paralyzed with fear in a real gunfight. Robbers hold up the local saloon, and Johnny cowers behind the bar. In shame he takes to the trail with his only friend, the stuttering Oscar.
