Plot summary
Mary Ann Simpson is an American who lives in Rio de Janeiro and teaches English. Her story is one of several about love found and lost that cross in the city. Acácio, a soccer player about to move to England, sits in her class, along with Nadine, who is excited about an online romance of her own with a man she takes to be an artist in New York. Pedro Paulo is a lawyer whose wife has left him for the instructor who teaches her tai chi chuan. He and Mary Ann meet by chance in an elevator, and, charmed by her, he decides to join one of her English classes.
