Plot summary
Judith is a middle-aged widow who worries about Lily, her 23-year-old daughter, since Lily has joined what her mother believes to be a sect. The commune where Lily now lives is overseen by Anita, and the young people there follow the lifestyle of the bonobo chimpanzee, a species whose way of resolving social conflict is sex. Judith chooses to rescue Lily and arrives at the commune, where she is told she must wait until she is in the right state of mind before she may talk to her daughter. While she waits at the commune, Judith begins to open up about herself.
