Plot summary
Ryan Gaerity, an Irish bomb maker, escapes Castle Gleigh, a prison in Northern Ireland, and makes his way to Boston, where he takes a janitor's job at a police station and settles into an abandoned casino ship in the harbor. Lieutenant Jimmy Dove works on the city's bomb squad, close to retirement, training newer recruits, and keeping to himself the years he spent in a Northern Ireland cell and the identity he took in America. Only his uncle, retired officer Max O'Bannon, knows that past. A bomb kills Dove's friend and colleague Blanket, and the squad hunts the bomber through the city.
