Plot summary
As a boy, Peter van Clease sees his grandfather fall from the dock at the family's lodge in northern Wisconsin; the body is never found. Seventeen years later, Peter, a recent college graduate, inherits the lodge and travels there with Ann Colbert, Kiersten Knudsen, Rodney, and Tom Finnegan. The town is holding Muskie Madness, its yearly fishing festival. At the lodge, the group meets Wayne Duerst, the neighbor who has looked after the property, and Wayne's son Evelyn, a Vietnam veteran who is hostile toward them.
