Plot summary
Three men fly to Venice. Melvyn Orton, a shy clerk, must buy a house there or lose his job. Mike Lawton is a hitman on his way to kill his next mark. Maurice Horton, a bank manager and mayor of a small British city, has a date waiting, fixed by Medi-Date. They all check in at the Hotel Gabrielli, where the bellboy's English is weak and he confuses their three similar surnames. Each expects a message, and each gets the wrong one.
