Plot summary
New York, October 1965, on Hispanic Day. A company of wooden processional giants from Pamplona, figures that represent Basque culture and traditions, is invited to march down Fifth Avenue. The local authorities do not allow all of the giants to take part, and two black figures are excluded from the parade. Prejudices that persist in many parts of society stand behind that decision. Manex, a young Basque, travels to New York to march inside one of the giant figures, in a parade that takes place a few months after the death of Malcolm X.

- The film's story grew out of a real event: in October 1965, processional giants modelled on Pamplona's parades were invited to march down New York's 5th Avenue for Hispanic Day, but two black giants were barred from the parade under racial discrimination policies, a few months after Malcolm X's death.
