Plot summary
Alice, an artist who lives in a retrofuturistic suburb, keeps antique books and outdated household robots. Max and his son Leo are her guests in 2045 when Victor, her ex-husband, arrives with their adopted daughter Nina and his fiancée Jennifer, who plan to marry at an expensive resort. Françoise, the neighbor, comes looking for her dog Toby. Then Nestor, the house's controlling artificial intelligence, locks the doors, and the robots, among them Monique, Einstein, Howard and Tom, refuse to let anyone leave, saying only that it is unsafe. Outside, the Yonyx, a newer generation of androids, are in revolt, and the house grows hotter because the air conditioning needs a passcode that Alice has not updated.
