Plot summary
Monroe Harris, called Mo, is sixteen and spends his free time with Zeke, Zeke's friends and Zeke's girlfriend Holly rather than with anyone his own age. Zeke is twenty-three, works a dead-end job and spends much of his time smoking marijuana and drinking; he once dated Mo's older sister Kate and stayed close with Mo after they broke up. Mo's parents, Reuben and Sherri, allow the friendship even though Zeke's influence concerns them. When a fellow sophomore, Stacey, invites Zeke to a senior party, Zeke gets Mo the drinks and gives him weed to sell, which earns Mo standing among the older students. There Mo strikes up a conversation with his classmate Sophie and they exchange numbers.
