David Meyer

Born in Watford, David Meyer is an English actor who became known for Shakespearean parts. He played Hamlet in a 1976 film version and Ferdinand in Derek Jarman's The Tempest (1979). In Peter Greenaway's The Draughtsman's Contract (1982) he and his brother appeared as the Poulencs. His most famous screen role is Mischka, a circus performer who throws knives and works as an assassin, in the James Bond film Octopussy (1983). He reunited with Jarman for War Requiem (1989) and played a Gestapo man in Bent (1997). On television he had roles in Inspector Morse and London Spy, and on stage he performed with Shakespeare's Globe and portrayed Isaac Newton, a part he took on a US tour that included an appearance at the Royal Society. In 2017 he was Saturn in The Woman in the Moon, a James Wallace production at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, and he won a Los Angeles Drama-Logue Award for Entertaining Mr Sloane.
