Plot summary
Humanoid Cylon John Cavil directs the planning of the attack that will destroy the Twelve Colonies, meeting with the seven Cylon models in a control room at the Cylon base. Aboard a Resurrection Ship, two Cavil copies speak of the lesson they mean to teach the Final Five, their creators, who lie in stasis. One Cavil goes down to Picon to watch the destruction and meets Ellen Tigh. Samuel Anders and his Pyramid teammates are at their training camp, where Simon serves as team doctor. The nuclear attack wounds Ellen, and Cavil gets her off the planet on a rescue ship. Tory Foster is wounded when her car overturns in the blast. Cavil later installs himself on Galactica as Brother Cavil, takes over the ship's chapel, and gathers the Cylons hiding among the survivors.

- Director Edward James Olmos was a fan of Dean Stockwell's 1948 film The Boy With Green Hair, in which Stockwell plays a war orphan, and dressed the boy named John in a replica of Stockwell's costume. Olmos reportedly wanted green hair to match, but the studio would not allow it.
