Plot summary
Las Vegas police are called when scientist Arnold Kramer is found lying on a sidewalk and telling people he hears movement beneath him. Kramer believes rogue elements of the Chinese Army under General Chan Lu are operating advanced burrowing machines to reach the United States and place atomic bombs under major cities. The tunnels are said to run from China through the Hawaiian islands. A war fought this way is forecast to kill 100 million people. Kramer is committed to an asylum. U.S. Navy Commander Jonathan Shaw visits him there, and Kramer's account agrees with what Shaw has already observed.
