Bill Nagy
Biography
Bill Nagy was a Canadian actor who built his career largely in the United Kingdom. Born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1921, he moved to Canada as a child and grew up in Toronto. He trained as a ballroom dancer and later studied acting in New York City at the Actors Studio. In mid-1949 he arrived in London to serve as the understudy to Paul Muni in the debut British staging of Death of a Salesman, and he chose to stay in England once the production closed. Between 1950 and 1973 he took on 140 roles for film and television, usually as an American or Canadian supporting player in British-made productions. He was seen in The Trojan Tanker episode of Department S in 1968, and between 1967 and 1970 he was Gregg Flint on Coronation Street. On the West End stage he took the part of Alvaro in The Rose Tattoo and played Stewpot in South Pacific. He died in 1973.
