Plot summary
Barbie tells her younger sister Kelly a story. Odette works in her family's bakery in a small village and dances well but is too shy to show it. A unicorn, Lila, races through town, and Odette follows her into the Enchanted Forest, where Lila is caught on a bush. Odette takes a magic crystal from a rock to set her free. The Fairy Queen says that because Odette released the crystal, she must defeat the sorcerer Rothbart, who rules the forest. Odette is unwilling. Rothbart finds her and turns her into a swan. A tiara from the Queen, holding the crystal, shields her, but she is a swan by day and human at night. With Lila she seeks Erasmus, a troll who keeps a great library, and the Book of Forest Lore.

- Barbie of Swan Lake was choreographed by New York City Ballet's Peter Martins, and its dancers were motion-captured: 16 light-emitting cameras filmed them over two days, tracking reflective squares on their elbows, wrists and legs, with Mainframe superimposing the data onto computer models. Cailin Stadnyk played Barbie's movements and ballerina Maria Kowroski her dancing.
