Plot summary
Andrew, a friend from college, has invited Lucian and Elizabeth to his isolated mansion for a weekend. Andrew's sister Miranda is there as well, with Gerald, her boyfriend, an artist who antagonizes the other guests and argues with her. Miranda is playful and seductive with Lucian, and the two are drawn to each other. Gerald gets Lucian into a poker game and loses his belongings; Miranda puts him out of the house. Lucian is left to reckon with what he feels for her. Gerald does not go far. He keeps to the grounds, laying traps, and neither Lucian nor Miranda knows where he is.
