Plot summary
Decades after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear plant, the people sent in to deal with it describe what they did. They are called liquidators, thousands of workers who repaired the damage and worked to keep radiation from spreading further across Europe. Among them are an engineer, a doctor at a hospital, a firefighter at reactor number 4, an officer who cleared waste from the roof and a girl evacuated from Pripyat. Each gives an account of the disaster and of its lasting effects on their health. Some return to the home they left behind, and their memories are set beside the state of the area now.
