Plot summary
The German propaganda film Das Ghetto was shot inside the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942, two months before the mass extermination of the ghetto's inhabitants in the Grossaktion Warsaw, and was left unfinished. The footage has no soundtrack, and historians took it as an authentic record although its scenes were arranged. The discovery of a long-missing reel showed camera crews directing what they filmed. Surviving residents give their accounts, and the testimony of Willy Wist, one of the operators, is re-enacted. The film also looks at scenes of elegant dinners and theatrical performances, where well-off residents appear as unwilling participants.

- Oscilloscope, the film's distributor, appealed to the MPAA over the documentary's R rating but was unsuccessful in getting it reclassified. The distributor argued the rating went against cultural norms because the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, which school children visit, holds more graphic footage.
