Plot summary
In northern France, a cheetah shipped from Africa is brought to a circus run by Lohman. It is found dead in its cage, its body burst open, and the ancient serpent-like creature that lived inside the animal gets out. It crawls into Yanka, a performer with the circus, as she sleeps. A month later she is living in a derelict building in a city, and the creature speaks to her mind, telling her to drink blood so it can grow and be born.

- Baby Blood was presented out of competition at the Avoriaz festival yet was still awarded a jury award — the first time that had happened in the festival's history.
- Director Alain Robak got Jean-Yves Lafesse, Alain Chabat and Jacques Audiard to appear in cameos in Baby Blood by simply asking them. Chabat had not been in films before, and Audiard agreed because he was friends with the filmmaker who created Baxter (1989).
