Plot summary
Odile Deray handles publicity for Red is Dead, a slasher movie whose killer works with a hammer and sickle. The film is booked at Cannes, where audiences and critics alike dismiss it. When a projectionist at the festival is murdered in the same manner as the movie's victims, Odile sees her chance: the press begins to pay attention. She brings the film's star, Simon Jérémi, to Cannes and hires Serge Karamazov, a bodyguard who calls himself a womanizer, to guard them both. Meanwhile Commissaire Patrick Bialès investigates the killings, and a deputy named Jean-Paul Martoni is wanted over a separate murder.
