Plot summary
A week-long rehabilitation excursion brings five young first-time offenders to the snowy wilderness with Sergeant A. Hoke and Ms. K, a guidance counselor. Hoke claims the cabin for himself and leaves Marty, Trish, Zack, Rosa and CB in tents. Not far off, a huge man steps out of the trees, kills a grizzly and butchers the carcass. That night Ms. K sits with the group at the campfire until a hermit, Meeks, appears and Hoke drives him away. The next morning's hike is punishing. During a rest stop Zack notices an enormous ox skeleton jutting from the ground and pockets one of its horns. The giant returns to that spot, where his ox is buried, and finds a horn gone.
