Plot summary
Two children and their mother watch a man shoot the children's father. The boy is left unable to speak. Years pass in the Tirolian Mountains, and the girl grows into a self-sufficient young woman who draws the notice of local men. While she swims alone in a natural spring, a man appears and rapes her, and she makes her way home, where her brother discovers their mother dead in her bed. The two of them stay on in the mountains, living off the land and collecting welfare in their mother's name. They are afraid that child services will separate them.
