Plot summary
This German-language telling was made alongside an English version, the same sets serving both casts in turn, and became the first fully talking film to reach German cinemas, where it was a major hit. Its source is a play, The Berg, which took the Titanic disaster as its subject, and the action unfolds aboard a fictional liner, the Atlantic. Among those aboard are Heinrich Thomas, an author, and his wife Anna, marking their anniversary, along with a man carrying on an affair with a fellow passenger. Partway across the ocean an iceberg strikes the ship and it begins to sink, and word reaches the passengers that three hours remain.
