Plot summary

At the Gödölle Palace in Hungary, the young empress, known as Sissi, stays with her young daughter and members of the court, free of the strict rules of the Viennese court. Her friendship with Count Andrássy carries political value, and she spends her days riding in the woods with him. At a ball at his castle he declares that he loves her, and she feels forced to break the relationship and moves back to Vienna. There, Franz Josef works at his desk while his mother, Archduchess Sophie, interferes in the raising of the couple's daughter, and the strict court life weighs on Sissi.
