Plot summary

After Idir, 13, dies in the hospital following a beating by three policemen who leave him for dead, his brother Abdel, an Algerian-French soldier, appeals for calm outside a police station. Another brother, Karim, leads a group of youths who disrupt the press conference, raid the station for weapons and tactical gear, and return to Athena, the housing complex outside Paris where the brothers grew up, to barricade residents inside. Riot police are dispatched to quell the uprising, and the youths reply with fireworks and improvised missiles. Drug dealer Moktar tries to move contraband out of Athena but is refused and takes shelter in a shisha lounge. Abdel returns for Idir's memorial service, tries to speak with Karim, and helps organize an evacuation and shelter for residents, including Sébastien, a former terrorist in Syria.
