Plot summary
Amy Benic, an architect, vacations at a health spa near New York City, where Virgil Adamson works as a masseur. During the massage she cries without knowing why, and he comforts her; only afterward does she realize he cannot see. He asks her out, and a relationship follows. Blind since he was three, Virgil lives alone, with his over-protective sister Jennie next door. Researching his condition, Amy finds Dr. Charles Aaron, a specialist who tells Virgil that surgery could restore his sight. Virgil refuses, angry, until Jennie explains that their father left the family after taking him through one treatment after another. He changes his mind and agrees to the operation.
