Plot summary
Paris in 1980 and Tehran in 1943 divide this story, which turns on a plan by a high-ranking Nazi officer to kill Joseph Stalin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Winston Churchill at their wartime meeting in Tehran. The officer wants the killings to undermine the Allied forces, and he gives the task to the German agent Max Richard. In Tehran, the Soviet agent Andrei Borodin meets Marie Louni, a Frenchwoman living in the city, and the two begin a brief affair. Almost four decades later, Max is hiding in Paris with Françoise, a young Frenchwoman. Andrei travels to the city to find Marie, the woman he knew in Tehran.
