Plot summary
Ana's story comes in three parts, each of them sensual, and together they span nearly thirty years on the French Riviera. As a young girl she is rebellious. Visions of death trouble her, and so does a dark figure she keeps seeing. She also brings her dead grandfather back to life. In her teens she learns about decay and about the pull of sexuality, and a boy called Nono is among those around her. As a grown woman she goes back to the house where her parents lived, which now stands derelict, and there she faces loneliness and loss. Throughout, her wanting moves between the real and the brightly colored: a laced hand in black keeps her from screaming, the wind raises her dress, and a razor blade passes over her skin.

- Directors Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani had only one third of their original budget for Amer, but the producers let them start production regardless, based on the pair's experience of making short films for very little money.
- Because of Amer's low budget, the two directors prepared so thoroughly that they tested every shot with digital video cameras, playing all the parts themselves, so nothing unexpected would come up when they began filming with the actors.
- Amer had its world premiere at Sweden's 2009 Lund International Fantastic Film Festival, where it won the festival's inaugural The Blade award.
