Plot summary
In 2003, as a coup grips Guinea-Bissau, three mercenaries known as the Hyenas of Bangui are paid in gold to smuggle Felix, a Mexican drug lord, to Dakar. A leak in their plane forces them to land in Senegal's Sine-Saloum region. Needing fuel and resin, and avoiding the police, Chaka, who is from Sine-Saloum, leads the group to the Baobab, an isolated resort by the Saloum delta, where he says he knows the owner, Omar. The four pose as gold miners. Among the guests is Sephora, an artist. Awa, a guest who is deaf and mute, signs to the Hyenas that she has recognized them and threatens to expose their identities unless she is allowed to join them. Then Souley, a police captain from Dakar, arrives for what he calls a vacation.
