Plot summary
After their expedition to King Solomon's Mines, Allan Quatermain and Jesse Huston have settled in colonial Africa and are engaged to be married. Quatermain is restless. A friend, Dumont, comes out of the jungle pursued by two masked men, and brings word that Quatermain's brother Robeson, thought lost, is alive and that the legendary Lost City of Gold has been found. Quatermain prepares an expedition to find Robeson. Jesse is furious at first. Umslopogaas, an old friend and warrior, helps him assemble a party.

- The film was criticized for carrying over racist themes from H. Rider Haggard's 19th-century novel; the book Africans and the Politics of Popular Culture said it reached "levels of racism unachieved since the 1930s".
- The film has just over half an hour of original music by Michael Linn, but for financial reasons the producers reused Jerry Goldsmith's material from King Solomon's Mines, plus music composed for other Cannon Films productions.
- Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold was made at the same time as its predecessor, King Solomon's Mines, although it reached cinemas a couple of years later.
