Plot summary
As a girl, Alicia "Ace" Anderson learns the craft and the mathematics of Texas Hold-em from the father she adores, and that world ends when he dies in a car crash. Years later she enters medical school, where the training is rigorous, money is tight, and she encounters medicine's seamier side. Her friends and fellow students each bring a distinct talent, and together the six of them form a poker team with the World Series of Poker in its sights. Ace draws on the skills her father taught her while the stakes rise in the casinos and in the operating room.
