Plot summary

In 1986, three best friends plan their futures together and return a cat they had taken from a neighbor to collect a forty dollar reward. Thirty years later, Vince lives on Chris's couch and sells vacuum cleaners door to door until he quits. Chris repairs cars, and his wife arrives at the garage with divorce papers; he says he will sign if her wealthy boyfriend pays him, then he quits as well. Kurt, who works for his wife's wealthy father, panics before a major presentation, is fired and breaks down. With no work left, Vince reads of a reward of 25 million dollars for a drug lord's capture, and the friends set off for South America.
