Plot summary
Alice-Heart, a college senior in Philadelphia, wants to become a famous writer. She quits during the final semester of her senior year, on a whim. Her Filipino mother is disappointed and cuts her off, and her studious boyfriend breaks up with her. For the first time she has to pay her own bills. Tony, the self-sufficient freelance photographer who lives next door, becomes the person she leans on, and he urges her to chase her passions and keep her friends. She moves among shallow artists, real friendships, and homework, and she faces the accusation that she is an adult baby.
